Homer Knowles Califorinia Pottery

pottery

I found this cute pottery bowl at the beginning of the summer and I’m just now getting around to doing some research on it. The marks on the bottom say, “KTK Calif” and numbered “410”…I think. From what I have found it was made by the Homer Knowles Pottery Company, in Santa Clara, California. Homer Knowles first worked in Ohio with his family’s company known as Knowles Taylor & Knowles. He started his company in California in 1923 and went bankrupt soon after, around 1924. Then Homer Knowles moved on to work with other pottery companies it seems.

This piece is so feminine, with lots of curves. The color is beyond beautiful with streaks of a darker blue over the lighter shade. Amazingly there is no crazing in the glaze for being a ninety years old piece.

This short centerpiece bowl has been one of my favorite pieces since I found it and it has been displayed with my Roseville Pottery even though I thought it was a much newer piece before doing my searching online. I was very, very please after finding out it is from the 1920s!
