How to Open a Skyway Suitcase: Video

Welcome back everyone! We’re back from our little summer vacation and ready to update you on all of our finds and projects. During our two week absence we had our one year anniversary of the blog. With over 800 readers, we really feel like we have a little community and so enjoy all of your comments and feedback.

One of our posts, Skyway Suitcase Cracked, has been a hotbed for comments, questioning just how the lock mechanism opens. Since creating this post I gave away my suitcase and therefore didn’t have a way to accurately describe how it opened. Enter Winnie, a Snag reader who graciously recorded how the suitcase opens and even included pictures of the outside and inside of her cute little case.

Suitcase OutsideSuitcase InsideThis would have been so helpful for me. Maybe I did have the right combination and the lock really wasn’t broken. I’m trying not to think about that. Hopefully this helps out several of you who are running in to the same problem. Thank you so much Winnie!

Thank you so much!!! This video was such a big help. A neighbor of mine had this suitcase with a free sign on it, and I just had to have it! I also saw the screw on the side of the lock and tried to turn it, but I may have stripped it a bit :\ but because of you, I figured out how to open it within an hour! Thank you so much for this video because reading, how the lock pushes to the side and opens, was a little confusing:)

Hi anahita! So glad this video did the trick. No matter how I tried to word it, words just weren’t enough.

Hi, so how do you jailbreak it?

Hello! I used a screwdriver and a hammer. An explanation is on a previous post before we had the video here.

This was such a helpful post and video. I found a dark blue, red and white locked Skyway today at a thrift store for $6. Luckily my code ended up in the 100-series. Thanks!

Hi! I just found 3 skyway cases at some garage sales today. They were all unlocked, and I have the instructions on how to reset the codes, but the problem is you have to know what the codes are to reset it. I’m not sure if the dials had been moved, so I’m not really sure if the codes that it’s currently on are correct and I don’t want to risk locking myself out to check. Is there any way I can change the combination without knowing what the last combo was? Thanks!

A follow up to this question: I managed to figure out the lock for one of the suitcases and I changed the combo, one of them I still can’t figure out the combo (so I still do want an answer to my previous question), but now the last suitcase is a little different. I think this one is identical to the one in the video, and I now know what the combo is, but the mechanism to change the combo isn’t the same, just wondering if you know how to change it? Thanks again!

Yet another follow up, I figured out the combo on the suitcase from the original question! So now I don’t need the answer to the first question, but I’m still stumped on how to change the combo on the other one!
