Mystery Revealed

And the mystery box is…

A phone! And a cool one at that. Today we all walk around with a phone in our pockets, but back in the 1960s people didn’t even want to have to see one on their desk. Starting in the late 1960s, the public was allowed to purchase their own phones for the first time—previously all phones were owned by the phone company. Imagine how excited people were when Western Electric unveiled this executive phone that is discretely concealed in a Mediterranean style wooden box—complete with retractable cord! Probably just as excited as we are to find it today.
