Private Stash: Nulton Ashtray

Nulton Pottery Ashtray

For my first Private Stash post, I’ve chosen a recent acquisition. So recent, in fact, that I purchased it on way home from work last night. Having come to the conclusion that I would get home too late to visit the gym, I decided it was not too late to visit a thrift store. I walked in 15 minutes to closing and walked out with 99 pieces of dinnerware, a Dansk serving tray and this great little 49-cent Nulton pottery ashtray as they locked the doors behind me.

I love the distinctly 1960’s slurry of textures, especially the intricate patterning under the glaze and the rough unglazed outer surface. Although I wasn’t able to find any information on the artist, it is hand-signed “Nulton,” suggesting it is probably studio pottery or better-quality factory pottery. Welcome to my pottery army, Nulton, I think you’ll be quite happy among the ranks.

My mother has been collecting Nulton pottery for quite some time. Is this item for sale?
