Private Stash: Chadwick Calculator

Unfortunately, I don’t know too much about this private stash piece.

This small counter was purchased in a flea market for $0.50. My son has taken a strong liking to it and plays with it quite a bit, totally worth the $0.50 paid. Each dial counts through ten digits then bumps the next dial up one digit. The lever on the right side resets everything to zero. My guess is it was used to keep track of crowd attendance? It’s made in Japan so I’m thinking 1960s–1970s. A Google search for “Chadwick counter” yielded questionable results. Anyone have thoughts on what this is?
