Private Stash: Seiko World Clock

Clocks, radios, telephones—I’m a sucker for a pretty dial. Although I’ve done a pretty decent job of populating my house with vintage gadgets galore, one little gem in my living room garners more comments from guests than everything else combined—my Seiko world clock. Made in Japan, probably in the 1970s or early 80s, this quartz beauty keeps all the time in the world with a rotating outer bezel that shows time for major cities across the globe. Its multi-depth face and beautiful wood case are worthy of a business mogul’s desk, but the coolest feature is the constantly sweeping second hand with a jet plane on the tip. I picked this up from one of my favorite dealers for $2, intending to give it as a gift. Alas, I was unable to pry my own claws off of it to let it go.
