Last Thursday I had a fun surprise when I went into Salvation Army. I found three bags full of ornaments. At just a glance the bags looked awful, but I could see one or two amazing ornament in each bag. I paid my total of $7.00 and drove back super excited to look in the bags.
Here is what I pulled out of these three bags!
A group of mercury glass birds with fiber tails. The larger bird has deep fluted indents on both side of its body.
The golden ornaments included a trio of glittered birds with mercury glass garland necklaces and a set of metal snowflakes.
Next is a Victorian candle tree holder and a tiny plastic wreath. Can you imagine burning candles on trees to light them up nowadays? Scary but I bet it was so pretty!
A very cute wooden Santa and reindeer. I don’t know where his bag of toys is but I love the mini bottle brush tree!
I found two spun head angles and a set of gold wire bells with red mercury glass beads intertwined in them.
An old mercury glass house ornament with the wrong metal topper.
More mercury glass ornaments. The pinecone and the house are both cracked. Mercury glass ornaments are just so unbelievably fragile. I would compare them to an egg shell. The fact that these were thrown in a bag with all kinds of other ornaments, I’m surprised that more are not broken! Here is a close-up of my favorite out of this group…
This ornament doesn’t hang and instead clips onto the tree, like some of the bird ornaments. I love the pink mushrooms detail.
These two are non-traditional Christmas ornaments. An umbrella with a deep indention on its underside and a colorful horn.
And just to top off all of my finds, I pulled this little wooden gnome out from one of the bags of ornaments! It was a perfect bonus!

Lucky you! I was at Savers a couple of weeks ago – they do the ornaments in plastic bags like Salvation Army. But no pretty or vintage ornaments in the midst of all the junky ones.
Thanks Melanie! I was shocked when I found these ornaments. I almost always walk out of thrift stores empty handed. It’s all about being there at the right time. We don’t have a Savers store around here. Keep hunting and good luck!
How neat! I love the pretty birds. I bet you are going to have an awesome looking tree.
Thanks Susie! We are under construction at our house so I’m not so sure how much I’ll be able to dig out for Christmas, but next year I’m going crazy!
Awesome finds Tammy!! Can’t wait to see your tree next year!! 🙂
Thank you Stacy!
