Weekend Finds: Smalls

This weekend was beautiful weather and I spent most of it indoors trying to retrofit my mom’s pinch-pleated drapes to a size that could be used in Oliver’s room. It was not short on drama, but I think at this point they’re almost ready to go up. Unfortunately, no thrifting was accomplished. These are all smalls I found last week. Still counts, right?

Tourister SuitcaseOne of my favorite finds was this cute little American Tourister train case. It’s in great condition after I used a toothbrush and some dish soap to scrub off the grime that had seeped into its surface.

American Tourister KeysAnd it even came with keys and a key envelope. My son thought the keys were adorable because they were shaped like people.

PursesI found these all at one store having a 50% off sale, so everything ended up being $4.00. I’m not much for purses but a nice vintage purse that’s huge? Ok. And while those Clinique bags aren’t vintage, the patterns on them are so vintage inspired I had to pick them up. I’m a mom and always need more places to stash band-aids and Matchbox cars.

Stretched FabricOk, so the questionable purchase of the day. I love the little Tensor light (of course). It’s from the 1980s and technically vintage in a space-age sort of way. I do like the stretched canvas, just maybe not for my house. It was $2.00 and I made a guy super sad when I picked it up before him. My husband and son love it. I just don’t know. What are your thoughts? Maybe in another location it will fit but right now I’m not sold.

I kinda love the canvas, but it needs to find a spot where it isn’t dwarfing the stuff its hanging over. It is boss! Embrace it. Since you made a grown man cry when you stole it out from under him and all…

You are exactly right Nina! It is huge and powerful. That poor guy, I almost gave it to him; he was so nice. But while he was looking at jewelry I was abandoning my son to run across the room to get it 🙂

Great finds! I have that same American tourist travel case in blue. Whenever I’ve found one of these, the inside was shot, with the little tray missing. Mine was in beautiful condition complete with the pearly tray, keys, inclosed mirror case and the little name tag on top still had the ladies name and address in it. This is one piece that is very functional vintage for me. It has excellent space. I’ve traveled with it. At home I use daily as my makeup case. What a great tip on how to clean it!!! I couldn’t figure out how to remove those spots, water didn’t work.
The canvas is awesome. My teenager would love that in his room.

Ugh! My tray is missing too. I have the mirror case but no tray, what a bummer. It will drive me crazy. Yes, just a toothbrush brought out so much grime; it was disgusting. Thanks Susie!
